Decorated with one of the Highest Civilian Honors Padmashree by President of India as well as Shilpa Guru Award by Govt.of India, Chaturbhuj Meher is a man with a mission. Hailing from a very poor background and orphaned at a very early age this man took to the art form practiced by his forefathers. From his childhood he was very disturbed by the poverty faced by his weaver’s community and his childhood dream was to popularize the traditional Ikats of Orissa and down the line his dedication has helped him create one of the biggest Handloom manufacturing unit in India which has employed more than 5000 weavers in its fold and contribute to their livelihood. In 2007 his Ikat Wall Hanging won the UNESCO Seal of Excellence by an International Panel of juries.
